At least that’s what radio host Kimberly Kay found out after she was fired from the Clear Channel-owned WBWZ Star 93.3-FM in New Palta, NY almost three years ago, according to dailyfreeman.com.
During that time, she renewed her acting career, landing theatrical roles locally and earning spots in national TV commercials.
Today, she’s once again in the driver’s seat along with broadcaster Mark Bolger, as the two recently resumed their morning gig at Townsquare's WCZX Mix 97.7 FM licensed to Hyde Park, NY.
But the lessons she learned from the experience have left their imprint.
“In the first year after we got fired, I hoped the phone call would come (to go back into broadcasting),” Kay said recently from Studio C at the Townsquare Media complex on Pendell Road in Poughkeepsie.
“I had not thought about acting in years ... but I decided to go back into acting professionally. A friend told me there was a market for women my age, and he introduced me to his agent.
Of course, the Woodstock resident is pleased to be back with Bolger, a 25-year veteran in the field.

That’s when the new owners — the Connecticut-based Townsquare Media Group — realized he needed a sidekick.
The company, which acquired WCZX in a purchase from Cumulus last fall, contacted Kay and asked her if she wanted to do a trial run with Bolger.
“The show has picked up where it left off. It’s great to have Kimberly back because we have an odd chemistry together,” he said.
Bolger and Kay officially began their new morning show on March 31, and they said the fan response has been tremendous, just as it was in the initial days after they were laid off.
