After almost six months of radio silence, the popular and zany team of Dave and Chuck the Freak are expected to announce Monday what station will next host their ribald humour.
Dave Hunter and Chuck Urquhart, who after more than 10 years
left CIMX 89X in late November with their sidekick Lisa Wray, will finally have
cleared any contractual obligations preventing them from speaking about their
next gig, according to The Windsor Star.
The source did not say where Dave and Chuck the Freak would
end up, but WRIF’s long-time morning show team Drew and Mike — Drew Lane and Mike
Clark — aired their last show Friday after 22 years of regular broadcasting. In the closing minutes of their final
program, Lane gave fans some hope, saying, “We’re not done with you yet.”
Much media speculation since had Dave and Chuck the Freak,
as well as Lisa Wray, soon rocking WRIF 101.1 FM.
The longtime Windsor-based on-air personalities made radio
waves — and saddened fans — when they made the surprise 89X announcement in
November. Eric Proksch, vice-president of Bell Media Radio Windsor-Detroit,
told the Star at the time that the alternative rock station did not want to see
its popular morning crew move on, but that they could not be persuaded to stay.
Since then Dave and Chuck the Freak have been
uncharacteristically quiet. On their website they thanked fans for the support,
but would not discuss where they would end up, or even hint if they would stay
in the Detroit
area.
