A tradition 20 years in the making, EarthFest has always
about the music.
But this year, 'heightened security' was on the playlist
too. And that is not the name of a popular band.
The music festival at the Esplanade was the city's first
big, outdoor, public gathering since the Boston Marathon bombings.
Restricted access, check points and a secured perimeter.
They all marked the concert's 20th anniversary.
The annual event celebrates Earth Day. The sponsor is Greater Media's WBOS Radio92.9 FM. Boston's Fourth of July celebration will be held here in about seven
weeks. Security for that event is already tight. But you can't helping thinking
this festival served as a dry run.
