It was billed as a KRLA/110 AM Radio reunion lunch, but the
spotlight was clearly on Hull.
If you were here in the '60s, you loved the excitement of AM
radio. It was spontaneous, fun, and Hull's arrival at KRLA in 1963 would
clearly be the highlight of a 57-year career in radio.
Bob Eubanks, who was also one of the "Eleven-Ten
Men," penned the foreword to Hull's book. He wrote that when Hull
"sat behind that mic in Pasadena for the first time (he) entered into a
Renaissance of his own – a crazed awakening powered by horns, laughter, and a
whole lot of hullabaloo.
Mike Wagner, who was also a former KRLA program director,
e-mailed Lycan , "Eubanks was on hand, along with Larry Huffman, ex-KEZY
production director in the early '70s who became known as
"Supermouth," the fast talking voice of Speedwaaaaayyy. Be
thereeeeeeee!!!! ; The Insane Daryl Wayne, former KRLA program director Jim
Pewter, DJs Shotgun Tom Kelly, Rick Scarry, Neil Ross, Michele Roth, Don
Elliott, Mike Daniels, Johnny St Thomas, sportscaster Rich Marotta, news anchor
Jane Platt, and production director Doug Brown, who provided classic KRLA
airchecks.
Hull's 575-page autobiography is more than a breezy,
entertaining read. It captures a time in Top 40 local radio that will never be
heard again. He signed off on his radio career in Palm Springs in 2010 and
