But today, his voice still a
little slow but decidedly more steady, he quotes a song from Pinocchio: “I’m
free, there are no strings on me.”
The Dallas Morning News reports Chapman went home Tuesday,
just a few days after doctors removed his feeding tubes and told him he was
free — and free to return to solid food for the first time since the night
before Christmas Eve, when Nance Chapman called 911.
For the past month, he’s been on a steady diet of “mashed
potatoes, smashed peas and smashed meat of some sort” — sounds appetizing. “But
when I left, they said. ‘You can eat anything you want. And I said, ‘What’s the
number for Domino’s?’”
Ron and Nance will likely “be hiding out at home for a few
months” while he recovers, he says. “My left side doesn’t do what my right side
does.”
