ESPN Apologizes for Musberger Comments

As current Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb continued to take in her newfound fame yesterday.

She earned the attention when ESPN's cameras continued to find and linger on her during the BCS championship game the night before.  She was in the stands watching her boyfriend, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, led the Crimson Tide to the title over Notre Dame.

The TV sports network issued an apology Tuesday for comments made about Webb by announcer Brent Musberger that some thought were inappropriate.

As the cameras found Webb Monday night, the 73-year-old Musberger said, "Wow, I'm telling you quarterbacks: You get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. . . . Whoa! . . . If you're a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pop."

ESPN said Tuesday, "We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback met the test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that."

But Webb said Musberger's comments didn't bother her, stating, "It was kind of nice. I didn't look at it as creepy at all. For a woman to be called beautiful, I don't see how that's an issue."
