Fox News Doubles Mark Levin Weekend Shows

Top conservative radio talker Mark Levin rarely sleeps. And now he doesn't even get a day off.

That's because Fox News is doubling down on its weekend ratings driver and giving the popular constitutional scholar and provocateur shows on both Saturday and Sunday nights, according to The Washington Examiner.

Already the weekend cable king with his Sunday night show Life, Liberty & Levin, he will do a completely new show for Saturday night too.

Meade Cooper, executive vice president of prime-time programming, said the new Saturday show will also air at 8 p.m. and debut Sept. 16, just three days before Levin is set to release his latest book, The Democrat Party Hates America. It is a pre-sales bestseller.

“Since joining the network in 2017, Mark has provided our audience with thought-provoking analysis on America’s core values and their impact on current events. We are looking forward to expanding his popular show to two nights a week,” Cooper said in a statement to Secrets.

Levin added, “It's an honor to join the other outstanding hosts on Saturday in bringing the most intelligent, informative and entertaining programming to the nation. Thank you to our loyal audience and Fox News.”

Levin’s Sunday show has been on the air for five years.

Life, Liberty & Levin, said Fox, “is the highest-rated prime time program in cable news on Sundays, averaging 1.4 million viewers and 104,000 in the 25-54 demographic, posting triple and double-digit advantages over CNN and MSNBC across the board.”

It is just one arm of his vast empire that includes LevinTV, the weeknight Mark Levin Show syndicated on radio, a podcast, and his books. The Mark Levin Show is on over 300 stations.

Radio History: September 8

➦In 1907...actor John 'Jack" Mather Born. (Died from heart attack at age 58 – August 16, 1966). He a radio and television actor, best known for playing The Cisco Kid on Mutual radio from 1947 to 1956. and for being the original voice of Wally Walrus.

➦In 1930...WBEN signed on in Buffalo, NY.  However, its history dates to the 1920s. WBEN initially used the facility built by the Norton Laboratories organization from Boston, as part of an experiment to send voice transmissions between Niagara Falls, New York, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, as WMAK.

When WMAK was launched in 1922 it operated initially from Lockport, New York at 833 kHz. The station later moved its transmitter to North Tonawanda, New York (broadcasting at 1130 kHz there) and then landing on 900 kHz, with 1000 watts of power, as a result of General Order 40, which realigned American AM radio allocations in 1927–28. In the late 1920s WMAK was acquired by the Buffalo Broadcasting Company, based at Buffalo's Rand Building, which also controlled WGR and WKBW in Buffalo. WMAK was a charter member of the CBS Radio Network, being one of the 16 stations that aired the first CBS network program on September 18, 1927.

WMAK was closed in the spring of 1930 as federal regulators began probing concentration of media ownership in the nation's largest radio markets. Buffalo Broadcasting Company chose to retain WGR and WKBW while shutting down WMAK and another daytime-only station, WKEN in suburban Kenmore, New York.

At the same time, the Buffalo Evening News was granted a broadcast license of its own, purchased the decommissioned transmitting facility of WMAK on Shawnee Road in Martinsville (North Tonawanda, New York) and re-licensed it as WBEN.

A new studio complex was built at the Statler-Hilton Hotel in downtown Buffalo (chosen primarily for access to the live orchestra there), and served WBEN, its sister FM station and sister television station (which opened in the spring of 1948) for more than 25 years.

In 1941, the station moved to its current position on the dial, at 930 kHz, as a result of the North American Radio Broadcasting Agreement (NARBA).

The station also relocated its transmitter to Grand Island at during this time, increasing full-time power to its current 5,000 watts. The Grand Island transmitter and two towers are still in use today.

Anna Gomez Confirmed As FCC Commissioner

Anna Gomez
The Senate voted Thursday to confirm Democrat Anna Gomez to the Federal Communications Commission, breaking the deadlock at the agency that has lasted the entirety of the Biden presidency. The vote in favor was 55-43.

CNBC reports Gomez’s confirmation comes after a protracted battle to confirm Biden’s initial pick for the commissioner seat, Gigi Sohn.

As senators remained split on her confirmation, the FCC was left in a 2-2 deadlock of Republican and Democratic commissioners, limiting its agenda to items that both sides could agree on.

With the arrival of Gomez, a telecom attorney who’s previously worked in several positions at the FCC and in the private sector, the agency has the opportunity to pursue actions without the support of the Republican commissioners. That could include a push to return to net neutrality rules, which seek to prevent internet service providers from slowing or blocking service for select websites, for which President Joe Biden has voiced his support for. Still, the late confirmation and fast-approaching 2024 elections could complicate such efforts.

Though Sohn was first nominated in October 2021, she ultimately withdrew herself from consideration in March this year, as Republicans and some Democrats continued to oppose her. Sohn said that during that period, she’d been subject to “unrelenting, dishonest and cruel attacks” and said in a statement at the time, “It is a sad day for our country and our democracy when dominant industries, with assistance from unlimited dark money, get to choose their regulators.”

9/7 WAKE-UP CALL: Hunter To Be Indicted

A US prosecutor will seek to indict President Joe Biden’s son Hunter before the end of September, catapulting the case back into the public spotlight as the president ramps up his reelection bid. Special Counsel David Weiss told a federal court in Delaware Wednesday that he plans to seek an indictment from a grand jury by Sept. 29. Weiss’s legal filing comes after US District Judge Maryellen Noreika directed the government to update her on the status of its case against Hunter Biden.

Weiss didn’t indicate what charges he plans to pursue or where they would be brought. However, Weiss’s office previously said it was examining violations of tax and gun laws. The tax charges could be brought in Washington, DC, or in California because that’s where the crimes allegedly occurred. An indictment against Hunter Biden could hang over his father’s 2024 reelection campaign, giving Republicans fuel to criticize the Bidens over their business dealings. The GOP’s leading candidate, former President Donald Trump, faces his own criminal indictments in federal and state courts.

đź’¸BIG MONEY DESERTS DeSANTIS: Former Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner was among Ron DeSantis’ biggest boosters during the 2022 midterm election, giving nearly $1 million to his reelection bid. But as he has surveyed the field of GOP candidates for president, Rauner — a wealthy former private equity executive who was DeSantis’ fifteenth biggest donor in last year’s election — has not given any more money to the Florida governor. Rauner told POLITICO he thinks another candidate, former U.N Ambassador Nikki Haley, has a better shot of defeating President Joe Biden than DeSantis.

➤DeSANTIS SAYS HE'LL REVIEW PROUD BOYS PARDONS: DeSantis stopped short of promising blanket pardons for the Proud Boys leaders who stormed the Capitol on January 6, but said he would 'look at' their sentences if he was elected president. The Florida Governor took aim at the 'excessive sentences' handed down to the activists, the longest of which was set Tuesday to the group's former leader Enrique Tarrio who was sentenced to 22 years for the breach. Sentences for the four Proud Boys leaders who have been sent behind bars have ranged between 15 and 22 years, with Tarrio's lengthy stint seen as harsh by some as he was not even in DC at the time of the riot Tarrio is among several other high-ranking former or current Proud Boys leaders to be sentenced over the January 6 attack, and prosecutors continue to add to the over 1,100 people charged over the siege.

➤BIDEN AT G20: President Joe Biden aims to seize on the absence of two key adversaries at this week’s Group of 20 leaders meeting in New Delhi to make fresh inroads with countries that China and Russia have previously courted.  Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping both opted to skip this year’s gathering, giving Biden an opening to re-establish the US as the polestar of the international system. He’ll take the US case to nations such as Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia — not to mention the host, India — that are eager for closer ties with China and have declined to take sides after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Central to that effort is a push to boost the funding and scope of the World Bank and other development banks, in a bid to deepen ties with the world’s emerging economies and offer an alternative to China’s state-backed lending. The US also plans to push for debt relief for poor countries and announce funding for new infrastructure projects. Biden will then visit Vietnam to announce commercial deals deepening ties with the country’s emerging technology sector.

TV Ratings: Fox Tops Cable, ABC Evenings News Wins Again

However, that’s -17% from the week prior.  Additionally, the network averaged 130,000 A25-54 in total day, No. 2 among basic cable networks in the measurement (only behind ESPN)  but -28% from the week prior.
