Spotify Parts With Staffers

Spotify’s podcast division has undergone layoffs, affecting about 5% of its workforce, or roughly 15 employees, according to a source cited by Front Office Sports

The cuts, made in early June 2025, align with Spotify’s push to expand video production, with a similar number of new roles expected in that area.

Two employees from The Ringer, acquired by Spotify in 2020 and founded by Bill Simmons in 2016, confirmed their layoffs. Claire McNear, an early hire, shared on X: “After 9 years at The Ringer, I was laid off this week. I’m gutted to leave but grateful for my time there, the wonderful people I worked with, and the stories I told.” Jonathan Kermah, a writer and audio producer who joined in 2020, also announced his departure on X: “Yesterday, I was laid off from The Ringer after five years. At 21, I started as an intern at my favorite website, and it became a five-year journey.”

A Spotify spokesperson declined to comment, stating, “Spotify does not comment on staffing changes.”
The Ringer has recently introduced new video shows hosted by Zach Lowe and Amy Poehler, reflecting its evolving content strategy.
