R.I.P.: Allan Novack, Former KYW News Reporter

Allan Novack (1946-2025)

Allan “Al” Novack, a beloved KYW Newsradio reporter, passed away at 79 on Friday, June 6, from Alzheimer’s disease, his daughter Melissa announced.

Melissa described her father as “larger than life,” noting his commanding presence and profound influence on family, community, and listeners. A Navy veteran and lifelong member of the North Penn Volunteer Fire Company, Novack began covering the Delaware Valley at WCAU before joining KYW in 1990, where he remained until 2014.

“Reporting and music were in his blood,” Melissa said. “He was born to do it.”

KYW colleague Mike DeNardo recalled Novack’s vibrant personality and competitive spirit, saying, “He had a booming voice, greeting officers with ‘Top of the morning to you’ during early police calls.”
Melissa emphasized Novack’s deep connection to Philadelphia: “He loved KYW, its staff, and the region. It was part of him, from his morning Wawa coffee to his work.”

Beyond broadcasting, Novack was a devoted single father to Melissa and her two brothers, earning affection as a true family man, according to the KYW website.
