ESPN Launches Promotion Blitz For New DTC Service

ESPN is gearing up for the fall 2025 launch of its direct-to-consumer streaming service with a new brand campaign, "Sports Forever," debuted during Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 5, 2025.

The campaign, highlighted by a nostalgic ad featuring footage from ESPN’s first 1979 broadcast with anchor Lee Leonard’s iconic line, “If you’re a fan… what you’ll see in the next minutes, hours, and days to follow may convince you you’ve gone to sports heaven,” emphasizes ESPN’s legacy while positioning it for a streaming future. The ad includes memorable moments and calls, like Stuart Scott’s “BOOYAH!” and Mike Breen’s “BANG!” to connect with fans emotionally.

Priced at $29.99 per month, the service aims to consolidate all ESPN offerings—live sports, exclusive content, studio shows, and documentaries—into one platform, targeting 60 million non-traditional TV subscribers.

Current ESPN+ subscribers will transition automatically based on their existing plans. The campaign, crafted with agency BSSP, will extend across digital platforms, social media, and out-of-home advertising, with a second phase planned to highlight features like fantasy sports and betting capabilities. ESPN’s move is seen as critical for Disney and Hearst amid the shift from cable to streaming, competing with rivals like Fox Corp.’s upcoming Fox One streamer.
