Chuck Todd Tears Into Biden's Family-Man Image

Chuck Todd, President Biden

Chuck Todd, former NBC News host, questioned the long-standing narrative of Joe Biden as a devoted family man during a Monday episode of The Chuck Toddcast, as first reported by The Daily Caller. In a conversation with CNN’s Jake Tapper about Tapper’s book Original Sin, which explores Biden’s 2020 re-election bid and the concealment of his decline, Todd reflected on Biden’s career-long image.

“For years, we covered Joe Biden as someone who cared so deeply about his family that he commuted home nightly from Washington,” Todd said. “But you could also say his ambition drove him to commute daily despite his family’s tragedies. Were we sold a 40-year bill of goods?”

Todd pointed to Biden’s decision to run in 2020 as the “original sin,” particularly given his family’s struggles. “I followed the Hunter Biden trial closely, reading every transcript and testimony,” he told Tapper. “I can’t believe Joe Biden put his kids through this.”

Tapper shared that a source close to the Biden family revealed unspoken truths: Beau Biden’s terminal illness, Hunter Biden’s drug addiction, and the notion that Joe prioritized family above all were not entirely accurate. “Biden’s 2020 run prioritized his ambition—perhaps his desire to counter Trumpism—over his family’s challenges, including his children’s struggles,” Tapper noted.

Todd, who previously criticized Biden’s family-man image in March 2025 on The Warning podcast with Steve Schmidt, reiterated that Biden “never should have run for president in 2020.”
