Philly Radio: Anthony Gargano Returns With New Show

Just in time for the Phillies' season opener, Anthony Gargano is launching his new AllPhly show Thursday morning.

The Philly Business Journal reports the program will air live from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. weekdays. It can be viewed on YouTube and heard in the form of a podcast, just like the company’s other programming. Gargano described it as a digital television show, likening it to TMZ. He will bounce topics off two producers and have AllPhly beat writers and other guests on to discuss various topics involving Philadelphia sports and culture.

Gargano will take calls from fans, just as he did on sports talk radio, but he said the show will use the TMZ format of video calls. There will also be taped segments where Gargano goes out into the field to interview local newsmakers, ranging from athletes, coaches and executives to local celebrities such as chef Michael Schulson.

“I want to be out and about and do some fun stuff,” Gargano said. “I love being creative. So this is going to be an outlet where Philadelphia is basically a blank canvas. Then we're just going to kind of create and produce as much content as we can, and have some fun.”

The Gargano show will serve as the lead into AllPhly’s weekday afternoon podcasts on the city's four major professional sports teams. He sees it as a way to reimagine the sports talk format that has been his life for the past 24 years.

Many of Gargano’s longtime sponsors from his radio days will be migrating to his new AllPhly show, including Parks Casino, Primo Hoagies, Steven Singer Jewelers and Olipop prebiotic soda.

Gargano has been off the air since he joined AllPhly and was suspended by The Fanatic from his midday show. On Sept. 18, he was sued by Beasley for breach of contract and breach of duty of loyalty while AllPhly was accused of tortuous interference with Gargano’s contract — which was set to run through Oct. 7, 2024.
