On Thursday, 99.5 WZPL kicks off its 27th annual Make-A-Wish Request-A-Thon, a 36-hour live broadcast benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana.
99.5 WZPL sounds different this time of year because the station play anything to raise money for Make-A-Wish!
Listeners can call 317-228-1099, donate to Make-A-Wish to help make a local child’s wish come true, and then request whatever song they like, regardless of genre. You’ll hear everything from Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back” to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” to college fight songs to Taylor Swift, and everything in between. The Smiley Morning Show including Dave Smiley, Nikki, Producer Will, and Toni will be on-air live for the entire 36 hours, fueled by caffeine and a desire to help as many Hoosier kids as possible.
In 2022, a record-setting $1.07 million was raised and 107 wishes were granted to area children with critical illnesses, bringing the cumulative total raised by the Make-A-Wish Request-A-Thon over the past 27 years to more than $11 million.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation makes life-changing wishes come true for children with critical illnesses. More than 250 children in Indiana are waiting for their wish to be granted. These kids deal with so much through treatments and hospital stays. A wish is an invaluable tool to bring hope and excitement to a scary situation.
