Russian forces in Ukraine were on the run Monday across a broad swath of the front line, as the Ukrainian military pressed its blitz offensive in the east and made gains in the south, belying President Vladimir V. Putin’s claims to have absorbed into Russia territories that his armies are steadily losing, reports The NY Times. Following the capture over the weekend of Lyman, a strategic rail hub and gateway to the eastern Donbas region, Ukrainian forces showed no sign of stopping, pushing eastward toward the city of Lysychansk, which Russia seized three months ago after bloody fighting. Any loss of territory in the Donbas undermines Mr. Putin’s objectives for the war he launched in February, which has focused on seizing and incorporating the region.
A pro-Kremlin journalist embedded with fleeing Russian troops offered a surprisingly candid assessment of the floundering Russian effort.

➤STUDY: DIET SODAS LINKED TO MEMORY LOSS: We may reach for diet soda when looking for a healthier alternative to sugar...but a study from the University of Southern California suggests low-calorie sweeteners may do more harm than good. Researchers studied rats who consumed artificially sweetened beverages compared with rats who consumed water. Consuming artificially sweetened beverages during adolescence was linked to long-term memory problems, slower metabolism, and an increased risk of diabetes. "Habitual low-calorie sweetener consumption during early life may have unintended, long-lasting impacts," co-author and professor Scott Kanoski said.

πCBS MICS PICK UP PACKERS QB NSFW LANGUAGE: Interesting moment was caught by CBS camera crew on Sunday during the Packers vs Patriots game. With about 11 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, with the Packers trailing 24-17 and facing 3rd and 6, Aaron Rodgers rushed the offense to the line but the clock was stopped before the snap and then this happened (NSFW): Turns out, Patriots safety Adrian Phillips was injured and the referees needed to stop the clock because of the injury rather than New England using a timeout.
