WURD 900 AM W241CH 96.1 FM has changed its morning show lineup for the second time since in little more than three months.
Former "Wake Up with WURD" co-hosts the Rev. Mark "The AME" Tyler and Denise "The Writer" Clay announced their departures in online statements issued Saturday after the station terminated their three-month contract.
According to The Philadelphia Tribune, The duo were contracted to replace Solomon Jones, who left WURD after three years to go to WPPZ Praise 107.9 last October. In separate statements, both Tyler and Clay indicated plans to soon return to the local airwaves and thanked the Lomax family, owner of the station.
According to WURD Radio President/CEO Sara Lomax-Reese, station management and the co-hosts had different programing ideas and when morning show was not a success decided to not renew their contract.
“There were just some challenges,” said Lomax-Reese. “We typically had not had teams as our hosts, and had typically had individuals as our hosts. This was an experiment and something that we intentionally looked at doing for a three-month period. At the end of the day, both sides really felt it wasn’t working.”
Award-winning journalist and online content producer Christopher Norris served as “Wake Up with WURD” principal back-up and is now its interim morning host.
