Twenty five years after Garth Brooks released his hit albums “The Chase” and “In Pieces” and less than one year after he announced his partnership with Amazon Music, Brooks and Amazon are offering free downloads of the hit albums in honor of the milestone.

The albums are home to hit songs including “Learning to Live Again,” “That Summer,” “Standing Outside the Fire” and “Callin’ Baton Rouge.”

According to The Tennessean, Brooks dropped by an Amazon Music event in Nashville earlier this week where he chatted about his relationship with the online retailer, his future hope for songwriters and why albums are more important than ever in a single-minded world.

“We have to get the album back in the streaming world,” Brooks said. “We have to talk about how to make streaming album sales (happen). That’s how it’s done. Then the songwriter gets paid on an album sale instead of a stream.”

Brooks said he recently tried to book a songwriting appointment with a writer to be told that he could only write in the evenings because the man had to have a day job. He could no longer support himself as a songwriter. Brooks explained that album cuts – songs that are on albums but are never released as singles – are what keep songwriters afloat financially until they can write a radio hit. When albums are sold – the songwriter gets paid.
