NBC News will celebrate the former anchor of “NBC Nightly News” with the special “Tom Brokaw at NBC News: The First 50 Years.”
The two-hour special premieres at 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
NBC News hired Brokaw in 1966, and his major assignments ranged from White House correspondent (1973-76) to “Today” anchor (1976-81) to “NBC Nightly News.” He started on “Nightly” in 1982 as co-anchor with Roger Mudd. Brokaw flew solo from 1983 to 2004.
NBC News said the special will range from Brokaw’s reporting on Ronald Reagan in 1966 to the former anchor’s contributions on the 2016 presidential election.
The program features Brokaw’s conversations with Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Tom Hanks, Jon Stewart, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Colin Powell, David Letterman, Sheryl Sandberg, Lester Holt, Maria Shriver, Lorne Michaels, Nikki Haley, Jim Webb, Wes Moore and Thomas Friedman.
“For 50 years I’ve been covering stories around the world for NBC News and this is a unique opportunity to share those experiences with friends and our audience,” Brokaw said in a statement. “It’s a little overwhelming to realize how far I’ve gone and what I’ve seen.”
