Everyone’s been anticipated big numbers for the World Series with the Chicago Cubs playing for the first time in more than four decades, and Game 1 did not disappoint.
Fox averaged 19.4 million total viewers, according to Nielsen overnights, up 30 percent from last year’s opener between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals, which averaged 14.9 million.
It’s 59 percent better than the 2014 opener between the San Francisco Giants and Royals, which posted 12.2 million.
In fact, it’s the best Game 1 since 2009, the last time the hugely popular New York Yankees were in the World Series. That year, the opener averaged a 13.8.
Among adults 18-49, the game averaged a 5.6 rating, up from a 4.6 last year, according to MediaLife.
