Journal Broadcast Group could face a trial this summer involving a lawsuit filed by a Florida woman who won a contest for a new home that never was built, according to a posting by the Business Journal.
Milwaukee-based Journal’s Fox network affiliate WFTX-TV in Fort Myers, Fla., co-sponsored the contest in 2007 along with Clear Channel radio stations and a real estate developer. The woman, Paula Hedberg, was awarded $150,000 in cash and the key to a new house with total winnings of $300,000, according to the Fort Myers News-Press.
Developer Copperhead LLC went out of business and Hedberg sued. The case is scheduled for mediation and if that is not successful could go to trial by August, the News-Press said.
A Clear Channel spokesman told the News-Press the prize was to be provided solely by Copperhead and the contest sponsors are not liable.
