Total average viewers for last week’s four-day Democratic National Convention topped the Republican National Convention held last month by 14%, averaging 21.8 million, according to MediaPost citing Nielsen.
The last night of the DNC -- when Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris accepted her party’s nomination -- also topped the last night of the RNC by 3%, reaching 26.2 million viewers. The final night of the RNC (25.4 million viewers) also featured Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump accepting his party's nomination.
The four-day RNC event averaged 19.1 million viewers.The last night of the DNC convention earned 26.2 million. The three initial nights of the event were aired by either 12 or 13 networks, depending on the night.
During the first three days, viewing for the DNC event was 19% higher -- to 20.3 million average viewers, versus the RNC’s 17 million.
For the final night of the DNC event, viewers 55-plus were the dominant audience group -- as it had been for all nights (as well as for each day of the RNC) -- averaging 18.8 million and yielding a 18.6% rating. A Nielsen rating is a percentage for a household, or a given viewer group, which has a TV set.
Viewers 35-54 were next -- at 5.2 million, for a 6.5 rating. Viewers 18-34 were at 1.4 million, for a 2.0 rating.
TV networks airing the last DNC night included ABC, CBS, NBC, Scripps News, Telemundo, Univision, BET, CNN, CNNe, Fox Business, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation, and PBS
