L-A Radio: Seacrest Probe Finds 'Insufficient Evidence'

Ryan Seacrest
An E! investigation into Ryan Seacrest has found 'insufficient evidence' to support claims he sexually harassed a former wardrobe stylist.

According to The DailyMail, the investigation was launched in November after a former stylist of Seacrest, 43, accused the TV host of misconduct related to an incident that allegedly took place roughly 10 years ago.

'E! has now concluded the investigation into allegations regarding Ryan Seacrest,' a network spokesperson said on Thursday.

'The investigation, conducted by outside counsel, found insufficient evidence to support the claims against Seacrest and therefore could not be substantiated. E! is committed to providing a safe working environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity.'

E! announced it was conducting an internal investigation after the wardrobe stylist complained that the TV host had behaved 'inappropriately toward her' around a decade ago.

No details were released about the specifics of the allegations. In a statement in November, Seacrest said: ''Throughout my 25 years in the entertainment industry, the majority of my co-workers have been women, and I've endeavored to foster a positive work environment of mutual respect and courtesy, as that's how I believe it should be. I'm distraught that anyone or any situation would call that into question."

Morning Joe's Mika Abruptly Ends Michael Wolff Segment

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski on Thursday told Michael Wolff that his "slurring" of United State Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley over a rumored affair with President Trump was "disgraceful."

According to TheHill, Brzezinski then abruptly ended a morning show interview with the bestselling "Fire and Fury" author and sent "Morning Joe" to commercial.

Wolff hinted that Trump was having an affair in "Fire and Fury" and fanned the flames of rumors about Haley last Friday on Bill Maher's HBO show. Haley has denied the allegation.

Wolff said Thursday that he “found it puzzling that she [Haley] would deny something that she was not accused of," during his interview with co-hosts Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.

“You might be having a fun time playing a little game dancing around this, but you’re slurring a woman; it’s disgraceful,” Brzezinski said to Wolff.

“Mika, again, she has been accused of nothing. She has decided to deny something she was not accused of,” Wolff retorted. “Certainly I have not accused her of this.”

“Come on, are you kidding?” Brzezinski asked. “You’re on the set of 'Morning Joe,' we don’t BS here.”

After some heated crosstalk, Brzezinski ended the interview.

“If you don’t get what we’re talking about, I’m sorry, this is awkward, you’re here on the set with us, but we’re done,” Brzezinski declared. “Michael Wolff, thank you. We’re going to go to break now.”

Wolff has been taken to task in recent days by other journalists for the insinuation about Haley.

Wolff laterclaimed that MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were "eager to gossip" with him about who President Trump could be having an affair with, even though Brzezinski cut short his interview in disgust on Thursday when that issue came up.

Wolff, who was on "Morning Joe" Thursday, said in a tweet after the program, "The last time I was on Morning Joe off camera Joe and Mika eager to gossip about who Trump might be sleeping with."

Two Websites Accused Of Faking Online Traffic

The publisher of Newsweek and the International Business Times has been engaging in fraudulent online traffic practices that helped it secure a major ad buy from a US government agency, according to a new report released Thursday by independent ad fraud researchers.

According to a BuzzFeed posting, IBTimes.com, the publisher’s US business site, last year won a significant portion of a large video and display advertising campaign for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency. Social Puncher, a consulting firm that investigates online ad fraud, alleges in its report that the ads were displayed to an audience on IBTimes.com that includes a significant amount of “cheap junk traffic with a share of bots.”

The CFPB’s ad budget was the subject of criticism from Republican lawmakers after the Daily Caller reported last year that it had awarded more than $40 million in contracts to a single ad agency, GMMB, which is one of the top Democratic media strategists.

The CFPB was created in 2011 as a result of the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. President Trump recently tweeted that the bureau “has been a total disaster,” and installed his budget director, Mick Mulvaney, as its new director.

Neither the CFPB or GMMB are accused of taking part in, or having knowledge of, ad fraud on IBTimes.com.

A CFPB spokesperson told BuzzFeed News the bureau is looking into the allegations raised in Social Puncher’s report.

FCC Fines Non-Coms $115K For Underwriting Violations

The Federal Communications Commission Thurday announced a settlement with Cesar Chavez Foundation for violations of the Commission’s underwriting rules for noncommercial educational broadcasters. The Foundation, which owns the Regional Mexican “La Campesina” network will pay a $115,000 civil penalty and adopt a rigorous compliance plan to prevent future violations of FCC rules.

Although such stations are not permitted to broadcast advertisements in exchange for consideration from for-profit entities, the underwriting rules allow these broadcasters to air acknowledgements of for-profit donors in specific, limited ways. The underwriting rules thus permit noncommercial educational stations to obtain financial support while also protecting the public’s use and enjoyment of commercial free broadcasts.

Between August 2016 and March 2017, Foundation-owned radio stations KNAI 88.3 FM in Phoenix, Arizona, and KUFW-FM in Woodlake, California, aired promotional announcements in violation of the underwriting rules.

These promotions ran afoul of the underwriting rules in various ways, by, for instance, including comparisons between an underwriter’s product or service to those of its competitors (“There are times that we fear going to see cars because we don’t know who to trust. You can trust the Bill Luke car dealership”); information on prices, savings, or value (“Additional holiday bonus savings on select models”); calls to consumers to take action (“Are you ready to buy a house? Want to know if you qualify?”); menu listing of products or services (“Cell phones from companies such as Verizon Wireless, Cricket, TMobile, Virgin Mobile, Trac-Fone”); and excessive length (between 30 and 60 seconds in duration). To settle the investigation, the Foundation agreed to pay a $115,000 penalty, adopt a rigorous compliance plan to prevent future violations of FCC rules, and observe a one-year moratorium on seeking or accepting underwriting from for-profit entities.

Noncommercial educational broadcast stations, which pay lower regulatory fees and may
utilize reserved spectrum, are prohibited from airing commercial advertisements. The
Commission has emphasized that permissible announcements in adherence to the underwriting
rules typically cannot promote a donor’s business or service. Impermissible promotional
announcements include calls to action; inducements to buy, sell or lease the donor’s products or services; price information; or qualitative or comparative descriptions of the donor’s products or services.

Natalie Wood's Death Termed 'Suspicious'

Robert Wagner, Natalie Wood
The mysterious death of actress Natalie Wood off Catalina Island has sparked more than three decades of speculation about whether it was an accident or murder.

Natalie Wood
The 43-year-old star of "West Side Story," who couldn't swim, was boating off the island during Thanksgiving weekend 1981 with her husband, Robert Wagner, fellow actor Christopher Walken and others when she somehow went overboard and drowned. Officials at the time said her death was an accident, but speculation over whether there was more to the story has endured for more than three decades.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reopened its investigation in 2011 but no charges were ever filed, and officials said at the time they were not sure if a crime had occurred.

This week, one of the investigators on the case, John Corina, reignited interest with comments about Wagner and his wife's death.

"He is a person of interest, because he was the last one with Natalie Wood. And somehow she ends up in the water and drowns," said Corina, a lieutenant in the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau.

Wagner, the lieutenant said, has refused to talk to investigators.

The original story that's been told — that Wood took a dinghy into town and fell into the water — doesn't add up, Corina said. There was a rainstorm and rough waters the night Wood disappeared. She was one of four people on a large boat when she went into the water, but detectives believe Wagner was alone with her in one part of the vessel, Corina said.

"Some of the things we found that [Wagner] did afterwards, or didn't do, in the boat, cause us to say, 'This doesn't make any sense,'" Corina said. "We're at the end of the investigation. We're at a standstill, so we thought we'd give it one more shot to the public."

Investigators received more than 100 tips since reopening the case, said Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida. New witnesses told detectives they heard noises coming from the boat on the night of Wood's disappearance, she said.

The witnesses provided a "new sequence of events" surrounding Wood's death that differs from the original version given by previous witnesses, Nishida said.

iHeartMedia Board Foregoes Cash Interest Payment

iHeartCommunications, Inc. today announced that its Board of Directors has elected not to make a cash interest payment of $106 million, due February 1, 2018, to holders of its 14% senior unsecured notes due 2021.

iHM cited active discussions continue among its lenders, noteholders, and financial sponsors regarding a comprehensive debt restructuring.

The Company’s Board elected not to make the payment in connection with ongoing efforts to proactively and comprehensively address the Company’s capital structure.

According to iHM, the decision will not trigger an event of default under the indenture as the Company will utilize a 30-day grace period under the indenture during which it retains the right to make the interest payment to the holders of the Notes and remain in compliance with the indenture governing the Notes.

The Board is considering options as part of its strategy to achieve a comprehensive restructuring of the Company’s debt.

Report: CBS Board To Talk Viacom Merger

CBS Corp’s board is expected to discuss a merger with Viacom Inc on Thursday, sources told Reuters, a move that could begin a formal process to reunite the companies split by controlling shareholder Sumner Redstone more than a decade ago.

The board will need to decide if the deal is now attractive enough to CBS shareholders to overshadow concerns that scuttled a proposed tie-up pushed by Sumner and his daughter Shari Redstone in 2016.

The CBS board meeting is regularly scheduled and no announcement may come out of it, said the sources, who wished to remain anonymous because they are not permitted to speak to the media.

Viacom Chief Executive Bob Bakish and CBS CEO Leslie Moonves talked about the potential merger earlier this month, Reuters reported.

Viacom’s Nickelodeon and MTV networks and Paramount films could help broadcast-focused CBS’ All Access streaming service become more competitive, and the combined company could also better negotiate with cable and satellite distributors.

Some could argue Viacom’s international presence is now more important for CBS given the rapid decline in U.S. cable subscriptions, some analysts have noted.

Walt Disney Co’s recent deal to buy Twenty-First Century Fox Inc assets has stoked a fresh push from Shari Redstone to rejoin the companies her father split in 2006.

Bakish has improved distributor relations, found financing for Paramount Pictures after Chinese investors dropped out and shuffled programming since taking over Viacom in late 2016.

Moonves and CBS’ board had concerns over corporate governance and the deal’s financial rationale, and the Redstones called off the effort in December 2016.
