Don Lemon Media Sees Surge In Subscribers

Journalist Don Lemon saw a major surge in his independent media business after his January arrest tied to coverage of a Minnesota church protest, with his YouTube channel growing by roughly 200,000 subscribers to more than 1.26 million and generating about $1 million in revenue.

The spike followed Lemon’s arrest by federal agents in Los Angeles over his reporting on a Jan. 18 protest at a church in St. Paul, where demonstrators interrupted a service to protest immigration enforcement.

Authorities accused Lemon and others of interfering with religious worship, while Lemon and press advocates argued he was engaged in constitutionally protected journalism.

The case quickly became a flashpoint in the broader debate over press freedom, drawing criticism from civil liberties groups and amplifying Lemon’s visibility as an independent media figure.

That increased attention translated into rapid audience and business growth across platforms, underscoring how legal and political controversies can accelerate the reach and monetization of journalists operating outside traditional news organizations.
