A recent NBC News Decision Desk Poll, conducted with SurveyMonkey, reveals that immigration remains Donald Trump’s strongest policy issue in his second term, even as a majority of Americans disapprove of his overall performance. The poll, released on June 16, 2025, shows 45% of Americans approve of Trump’s job as president, while 55% disapprove—figures unchanged from an April NBC News survey.
Approval ratings split sharply along party lines. Among Republicans, 89% approve of Trump’s second term, compared to just 8% of Democrats and 35% of Independents.
Disapproval is starkly higher among Democrats (92%) and Independents (65%), with 12% of Republicans also expressing dissatisfaction.
The poll indicates a slight cooling of enthusiasm among Republicans. Compared to April, Republicans are 5 percentage points less likely to “strongly support” Trump’s administration, with much of this shift attributed to respondents identifying with the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement. An “intensity gap” further highlights partisan divides: when asked to choose one emotion about the Trump administration—thrilled, happy, satisfied, neutral, dissatisfied, angry, or furious—51% of Democrats reported feeling “furious,” compared to only 23% of Republicans. Meanwhile, Republican enthusiasm has waned, with just 25% feeling “thrilled” about Trump’s actions, down from 32% in April. Only 1% of Republicans said they felt “furious.”
Despite mixed sentiments, Trump’s handling of immigration continues to resonate, solidifying his strongest policy advantage as his administration navigates a polarized political landscape.
