Smokey Robinson’s Lawyer: Assault Claims ‘Vile’ and ‘False’

A lawyer representing Motown legend Smokey Robinson vehemently denied allegations of sexual assault leveled against the singer in a lawsuit filed by four women.

The attorney, Christopher Frost, described the claims as “false” and “vile,” asserting that the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, is a calculated attempt to extort millions from the 85-year-old music icon.

The plaintiffs, identified as Jane Does 1 through 4, were employed as housekeepers for Robinson and his wife, Frances, who is also named as a co-defendant. The lawsuit alleges that Robinson repeatedly raped the women over the course of their employment, with Frances allegedly ignoring the abuse.

The claims include graphic details of the purported assaults, which the suit says occurred at the Robinsons’ primary residence in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, and other properties owned by the couple.
According to the lawsuit: One plaintiff, employed from 2006 to April 2024, alleges she was sexually assaulted at the Chatsworth home and other Robinson properties.

A second plaintiff, who worked from 2014 to 2020, claims at least 23 instances of sexual assault during her six-year tenure. A third plaintiff, employed from 2012 to 2024, alleges at least 20 assaults. The fourth plaintiff also claims repeated assaults, with specific incidents tied to times when Robinson allegedly returned home alone after dropping his wife at a nail salon.

The women’s attorney, John Harris, stated on Tuesday that three of the plaintiffs feared reporting the alleged abuse due to their immigration status, which left them vulnerable as low-wage workers.

In response, Frost issued a statement to The New York Times, labeling the lawsuit an “ugly attempt to extort money from an American icon.”
