Wake-Up Call: Dem Access To Trump Tax Returns Blocked


Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked Congress’s access to Donald Trump’s tax returns. The former president had asked the court for an emergency order blocking the release of the information to the House Ways and Means Committee. The panel has until Nov. 10, two days after the midterm elections, to respond to the request, after which Roberts or the full court could act. Trump never released his tax returns, a custom every major-party presidential nominee since 1976 followed and President Biden resumed. After Democrats took the House in 2018, the committee requested the records. The then-president and his Treasury Department argued that there wasn’t a legitimate legislative need for them, triggering years of litigation. If Republicans win control of the House next week, as projected, they’ll likely drop the issue.


➤THERE WILL BE A COST TO BE VERIFIED ON TWITTER:  Elon Musk signaled he might institute an $8 monthly subscription for Twitter’s verified users. He tweeted that the social-media company needs to pay its bills without relying on advertisers. In addition to the possible charges for the blue-checkmark crowd, Twitter also is ending ad-free articles access for users who pay monthly for premium features, according to people familiar with the matter. In his first few days at the helm, Musk also fired several top executives and named himself the company’s sole director.

➤AMERICANS ARE NOT TOO ENTHUSED ABOUT THE MIDTERMS: The midterms are less than a week away and, according to Gallup, 49% of Americans say they have given this year's congressional elections "quite a lot" of thought while 44% of U.S. adults say they have given them "only a little." The Democrats have a slight edge in enthusiasm, however their party is vulnerable given President Joe Biden's low approval rating. Election day is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.



✞AMERICANS THAT LIVE IN RED STATES DIE EARLY ACCORDING TO STUDY: A new study found that Americans die younger in conservative states than in those governed by liberals. According to the study, simulations indicate that by changing all policy domains in all states to a fully liberal orientation roughly 171,030 lives would have been saved in 2019. On the other hand, by changing them to a fully conservative orientation roughly 217,635 lives would have been lost. The study was published on Plos One.


➤MICHIGAN TEEN ARRESTED AFTER DEAD BODY FOUND INSIDE TRUCK FOLLOWING CRASH: A 19 year old teen driving a pickup truck fled after a minor crash in Michigan but when officers checked the teen's truck, they found the body of 62-year-old Gabrielle Seitz in the bed. Authorities arrested Stephen Freeman and is currently being charged with concealing the death of an individual and receiving and concealing stolen property. The cause of death for Seitz has yet to be determined.

🏙TOP 5 MOST LIVABLE CITIES IN 2022 HAS ZERO FROM THE U.S.: The United States has many wonderful cities but according to the Economic Intelligence Unit’s annual Global Liveability Index, none of the cities in the U.S. are worthy of making the top 5 "most Livable Cities In 2022" list. The survey considers five categories in its ranking system: stability, culture and environment, health care, infrastructure and education. The top 5 cities are: 5- Vancouver, Canada 3- Calgary, Canada (tied) & 3- Zurich, Switzerland, 2- Copenhagen, Denmark and 1- Vienna, Austria.


🥫STUDY: FEW PEOPLE ACCURATELY ESTIMATE HOW HEALTHY THEIR DIET IS:  Only 1 in 4 people can accurately estimate how healthy their diet is after a year attempting to lose weight, a new study found. The research, which will be presented at an American Heart Association meeting, suggests people tend to think they are adhering to healthy eating habits more than they really are. 116 participants and their diets were evaluated for the study. All of the participants were trying to lose weight. These dieters also tended to think they had changed what they ate more than they actually had. This overestimation "can lead to weight gain, not to mention increasing frustration over not meeting personal weight-loss goals," Deepika Laddu said. While people have a general understanding of what makes food healthy, more nutritional counseling may be needed

Shockingly, there were no large prizes won on Halloween night, which means the Powerball swells to $1.2 billion for Wednesday night's drawing. 👃STUDY: PICKING YOUR NOSE INCREASES ALZHEIMER'S RISK:  It's disgusting, but is it also dangerous? A study published in Scientific Reports connects nose-picking with dementia risk. The research, which was performed on mice, suggests nose-picking allows bacteria to reach the brain easier through the olfactory canal. "We’re the first to show that Chlamydia pneumoniae can go directly up the nose and into the brain where it can set off pathologies that look like Alzheimer’s disease," Professor James St. John said. "We saw this happen in a mouse model, and the evidence is potentially scary for humans as well."  Just another reason to keep fingers out of there!

🎵AMAZON MUSIC GETS HUGE INCREASE, CATALOG TO EXPAND TO 100M SONGS: Amazon Prime subscribers to get 100 million songs in shuffle mode without any advertisement at no additional costs. With the expanded song library, Prime members listening on Amazon Music will mostly be limited to shuffle-play mode which is based on artist, album or playlist. Previously, the library had 2 million songs and was available to stream on-demand. Also included will be most of Amazon's top podcasts ad-free.





⚾PHILLIES WIN IN A BLOWOUT:  Bryce Harper led things off with a first inning home run, and the Phillies never looked back in a 7-0 rout of the Astros at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies tied a World Series record with five home runs, led by Bryce Harper’s bomb in the first inning and capped by back-to back homers by Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins. The World Series continues Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park with Game 4 between the Phillies and Astros at 8:03 p.m. on Fox.

🏈DEION SANDERS TO LOCKDOWN JACKSON STATE PLAYERS IN HOTEL WHILE IN HOUSTON: Following the fatal shooting of Atlanta rapper Takeoff, Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders said he will not allow his players to leave their hotel rooms this weekend while in Houston. Sanders said if family members or friends would like to see the players before the game on Saturday they will need to visit them at the team's hotel.

🏈CHICAGO BEARS DERAIL PACKERS TRADE FOR CHASE CLAYPOOL: The Chicago Bears acquired wide receiver Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers before the trade deadline. The Steelers in return received a 2023 second-round pick. According to Josina Anderson from CBS Sports, the Green Bay Packers were potentially going to offer the best deal for Claypool before the Bears sweetened their deal and stole Claypool from the Packers.

➤EX-CHIEFS ASSISTANT BRITT REID IS SENTENCED TO 3 YEARS: Britt Reid, Andy Reid's son and a former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach was sentenced to three years in prison over his role in a 2021 car crash that left a 5-year-old girl with a serious brain injury. Reid pleaded guilty in September to driving while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury.

🏈LIONS TRADE TE T.J. HOCKENSON TO MINNESOTA VIKINGS: The Detroit Lions traded tight end T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2024 draft selection to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick.

🏀STEVE NASH OUT AS BROOKLYN NETS COACH ENDING CHAOTIC TENURE: The Brooklyn Nets announced that on Tuesday head coach Steve Nash was out as head coach. Before Tuesday's game against the Chicago Bulls, Nets general manager Sean Marks said that both he and Nash thought it was time and acknowledged they knew this decision was probably going to be made sooner rather than later.
