A Missouri radio and marketing group has executed a letter of intent to acquire Meyer Communications, which owns several Springfield stations.
The News-Leader reports Zimmer Radio co-owner Don Zimmer said the company is in the early stages of due diligence, taking steps to buy the properties.
"There's nothing set," Zimmer said in a phone interview Thursday. "We'll see how things go with regards to the due diligence, and with five stations, it'll probably take awhile."
The company will research the Springfield-area market before any final decisions will be made in regard to programming, he said.
Zimmer's father started in the radio broadcast business in the 1950s, he said. Don Zimmer and John Zimmer currently own and operate 10 radio stations of various formats in mid-Missouri.
"We're excited about the opportunities of being in the market," Zimmer said. "We've known the Meyer family for many years, and we're excited to look at the potential opportunities for being in Springfield."
Meyer Communications owns Sports JOCK 98.7, Country KTXR 101.3 FM, N/T KWTO 560 AM and KBFL 99.9 FM.
