Amy Robach, Lara Spencer |
Page Six at The NYPost reports producers behind the ABC show — which is battling NBC’s “Today” for the top spot in the morning — want to focus on its winning team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan, with both Amy Robach and Lara Spencer cutting back their time on the show.
Longtime co-anchor Spencer — who has a growing production company — is trimming her hours on “GMA” to work on her other projects.
An official announcement is expected any day now that “GMA” news anchor Robach is getting promoted to a new gig fronting the network’s news magazine “20/20.”
Page Six first reported in December that Robach would replace current anchor Elizabeth Vargas in 2018. She’ll continue to work on “GMA” as a breaking-news anchor, shipping out to cover major news, such as natural disasters, in the field.
Sources say that Spencer — whose production company Duffkat Media makes lifestyle shows including HGTV’s “Flea Market Flip,” Cooking Channel’s “Farmer’s Market Flip” and ABC’s “Reconnected” — has signed a new contract with “GMA” that allows her more time for her behind-the-camera work.
