Cumulus Media-New York City hosted its 2nd Annual Apple-A-Day iPad Party at WPLJ 95.5 FM studios last Saturday, June 4, 2016, where 20 children with pediatric cancer were presented with their very own iPads to stay connected to the outside world while undergoing cancer treatment.
95.5 WPLJ morning show co-host, Jayde Donovan, launched the Apple-A-Day non-profit organization and laptop giveaway in 2001, in memory of her friend Brittany, who passed away from bone cancer. This year, 95.5 PLJ and Jayde continued the mission to spread joy to pediatric cancer patients by surprising 20 children from Tomorrow's Children’s Fund with brand new iPads courtesy of Ramsey Subaru.
Each child who attended the party and received an iPad also got the exciting experience of what it would be like to be a celebrity visiting the radio station. The tour included the chance to be a DJ at their own dance party, with stops in Cumulus NYC's green screen room, the "Todd & Jayde in the Morning" show studio, the station's paparazzi staging area and VP/Market Manager Chad Lopez’s office, where they were able to ‘be the boss’. The children and their families enjoyed food and treats provided by Ellen’s Stardust Diner, McDonald’s, and Applegate Farms.
The Apple-A-Day program motto is: “Helping Kids Stay Connected While Fighting Cancer,” providing pediatric cancer patients (ages 2-17) with devices (tablets, smart phones) so that they may experience simple joys such as listening to music, FaceTiming, taking pictures, watching movies, and staying in contact with family, friends, and the outside world while undergoing cancer treatment.
