Curtis Sliwa |
Curtis Sliwa, 61, WABC 770 AM radio personality and founder of the unarmed anti-crime patrol, joined five of his Angels in their first sortie into Central Park in more than two decades Sunday night.
“If the mayor won’t let the cops do their job, then we, the citizens, will have to go back to guarding our parks, streets and subways,” Sliwa told The NY Post.
The Guardian Angels, who wear red jackets and berets, will patrol the city day and night, ready to make citizen’s arrests or “physically intervene” if necessary, Sliwa vowed.
They saw no criminal activity, but “one slow night doesn’t mean anything,’’ Sliwa said. “We’ll be coming out night and day, from this point on.’’
Sliwa blasted the mayor, calling him “totally clueless about crime in New York.”
