Report: Lou Holtz OUT At ESPN

Former Irish head coach Lou Holtz won't be on any ESPN studio shows this fall after he and the network went separate ways, a report from Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch.

The 11-year ESPN veteran said 2014 would be his final season with the network at a fundraising event in Chicago last spring.

Holtz's agent, Sandy Montag, told Sports Illustrated, “Lou enjoyed his time and friendships made at ESPN and looks forward to other opportunities in college football.”

Holtz, 78, compiled a 100-30-2 record in 11 years as Notre Dame's head coach (1986-1996). He led the 1988 Irish team to a 12-0 record and national championship, the program's last such achievement. After departing Notre Dame in 1996, Holtz stepped away from coaching for three years before finishing up his career with six seasons at South Carolina.

He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and ended his college coaching career with a 249-132-7 record.
