One of the Tri-State's favorite and highest-rated radio personalities, Jeff "The Crawdawg" Crawford died from cancer Tuesday.

He was 55-years-of-age, according to The Herald-Dispatch.

Kindred Communications President Mike Kirtner made the announcement on his Facebook page.

"He was the strongest and most determined man I have ever known," Kirtner wrote. "He accepted what life handed him and kept moving forward until he could move no more."

Crawford was the program director of radio station WDGG 93.7 FM and hosted the afternoon drive time shift, 2 to 7 p.m.

His wife and 16-year-old daughter died in a 2009 car wreck.

From 1992 until he could no longer work this year, Crawford was the afternoon drive announcer, said Reeves Kirtner, Kindred vice president and associate general manger.

He left the air in mid-January, Reeves Kirtner said, adding Crawford also left during chemotherapy and radiation for his throat cancer, but returned to the microphone in the fall of 2014.
