Renda Broadcasting has filed with the FCC to sell it's WJAS 1320 AM to Pittsburgh Radio Partners for a reported $1M.
Tony Renda, Prersident of Renda, will be left with just one station in the market WSHH 997. FM Wish.
The company previously donated another AM, WMNY 1360 AM to Pentecostal Temple Development Corporation, licensee of WGBN in New Kensington. The transaction was completed on October 9, 2013
Pittsburgh Radio Partners is headed by Frank Iorio Jr. and owns Talk WRRN in Warren, PA, Country WKNB in Clarendon, PA and Religion WLKE in Gallitzen, PA.
Renda Broadcasting continues to own stations in Fort Myers and Jacksonville, FL and Greensburg, Indiana, and Punxsutawney, PA.
WJAS' morning host is longtime market-fixture Jack Bogut and the station is airing a Standards format.
I am sad to find out the one station I really liked has changed. I will miss chilly billy the most. The only problem I had was when you started sticking music in from the 70's thru the 90's or newer. I still suffered through it. I can't stand "Rush" . He has good ideas but he would spend an hour or more just on one item. He also was so full of himself I almost hurt myself RUSHING to turn him off. The same thing happened to WPGH when they took Quinn and Rose off . I changed the push buttons on both my car and clock radios. So now it's goodby to 1320 the same way unless you would put Quinn and Rose on your station. Paul Buzard.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to listen to the ramblings of a mad man! Rush Limbaugh is a big mouth bigot. It's a sad day for all of us who enjoyed listening to the good music. 1320 is no longer playing in my home, it's just another BORING talk show station with a real jerk (Limbaugh) babbling about nothing relevant.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the first 2 comments---there is absolutely no reason to ever tune in 1320 again! How is it that you expect more listeners than before? What made WJAS special and compelling was the EXISTING format! I will look forward to reading about the eventual demise of the new one!
ReplyDeleteWJAS will fail now!
ReplyDeleteWJAS will fail now since the change to talk radio!
ReplyDeleteIf you sold WJAS with the great format it had then make WSHH that format and maybe more people will listen. We definitely don't need another talk show. That was the greatest channel on the air. Even though the only time I could listen was at home
ReplyDeleteI find these some of these comments laughable, and in all likelihood represent an infinitesimally small number of listeners. I only stumbled upon this page because 104.7 FM was just turned into a (yet another) lame country station... now I have to listen to talk radio in mono, which doesn't sound bad after a bit, but you really get spoiled on clear stereo broadcast. But on a positive note, I heard they got rid of "bloomdaddy" - just never got into his program.
ReplyDeleteSo there is an upside, albeit a small one. Hated bloomdaddy. Loved Quinn and Rose (especially Quinn). Maybe the Pittsburgh region is dying because i cannot imagine a maoor market without a successful talk radio station, without the most promient voices in talk radio. I will find Rush but not on this lame fuzzy station. I feel for the displaced listeners. Maybe unique styles (cannot think of exact right term) like WJAS was will find outlet online sometime soon and make regular radio obsolete.
DeleteSAD. Absolutely sad. There was no other station to find the music that WJAS played with classy guys like Jack Bogut and Bill Cardill. I couldn't delete this station from my car radios fast enough. All the best to Jack Bogut, Bill Cardill and the rest of the wonderful people that kept us company and brought us the beautiful music each day. "Good" luck Iorio....NOT!
ReplyDeleteJust what we needed and venue for political discourse and dis-information. Hope it fails. Will miss my music,
ReplyDeleteShamefully, WJAS has gone backwards to the format it had in the '70s. Let's hope some sensible station owner takes the bold step of instating the GREAT format that Jack Bogut and Bill Cardille made so comfortable on WJAS - and gets a HUGE audience as a result!
ReplyDeletethis is a real shame;how many talk shows do we need ?;I loved listening to bogut in the morning ! it was great on Friday morning !;oh well i'll have to stop listening to wjas now ! they changed and so am I !!!
ReplyDeletejack bogut and chilly billie were a true Pittsburgh icon;i cant believe they sold the station and changed their format !; I hope their ratings crumble and I hope frank iorio wakes and brings them back !!
