Seattle Radio: Clear Channel Flips 102.9 FM

CCM+E Seattle has upped the ante in the AC format flipping the format of its 102.9 FM signal.  The company Friday launched KYNW 102.9 Now FM as a direct challenge to Fisher’s KPLZ-FM Star 105.1.

Using the calls KNBQ, the frequency had been simulcasting the sports format of KJR for the past year and a half.  Clear Channel issued a statement on KJR’s website:
Sports Radio KJR is Seattle’s Sports Radio Station.  Our strong local sports talk brand can touch our loyal listeners on 950am, I Heart Radio, SportsRadio KJR.com and on now on KJR-FM HD-2.  Sports Radio KJR will no longer be heard on 102.9FM, now EXCLUSIVELY on 950AM.  This is a business decision that will allow Sports Radio 950 KJR to continue to grow, while also adding an exciting new station to our family.
102.9 Now FM will be programmed by Eric Powers, who also oversees CHR KBKS KISS 106.1 FM and rhythmic/CHR KUBE 93.3 FM.  CCM+E’s SVP of programming Keith Cunningham says “Now FM” will be the “perfect musical complement” to its sister-stations.

The company is hoping to improve the ranking of KUBE by pulling some shares away from KPLZ. KYNW is licensed to nearby Centralia, WA.

  1. I will no longer listen to 102.9 and I don't listen to am radio. That shift cost them this listener. I used to listen all the time. Thank you for the info Tom.
