WOOD Radio’s farewell for announcer 66-year-old Gary Allen
is going to be unlike anything ever heard before.
Special guests will be on WOOD 100 AM/107.9FM on Thursday
during a 12-hour salute to Allen, who retires on Friday, according to mlive.com. It’s “Gary Allen Day” at WOOD Radio, and
Allen will broadcast for 12 straight hours, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., along with a
who’s who of familiar faces and voices from West Michigan .
“It’s going to be a very special day for local radio fans,”
said Phil Tower , director of programming and
operations for WOOD Radio. “It’s also going to be something we’ve never done in
the history of WOOD radio, which is dedicate a whole day to one individual.”

Allen, a fixture at WOOD-AM 1300 and 106.9 FM on weekday
mornings, switches off his microphone on Friday. Co-host Steve Kelly and
producer Lauren Smith are expected to remain with “West
Michigan ’s Morning News.” at WOOD Radio.
But on Thursday, WOOD Radio is sending Allen off in style
with the 12-hour broadcast, pre-empting regular syndicated shows including the
Glenn Beck Program, the Rush Limbaugh Show and the Sean Hannity Show.
