Pat Summerall |
Over his four-decade career, which began after he played in
the NFL for 10 years, Summerall broadcast football, including 16 Super Bowls,
as well as golf's PGA Tour, including the Masters, and the U.S. Open tennis
tournament.
Fellow NFL broadcaster John Madden said in a statement
yesterday,
"Pat was my broadcasting partner for a long time, but
more than that he was my friend for all of these years. Pat Summerall is the
voice of football and always will be."
Summerall's final game with Madden was the Super Bowl in
2002, and he then remained a full-time broadcaster for one more season with Fox
before deciding to step down. He did a handful of NFL games for Fox and ESPN
the next few seasons, as well as some Cotton Bowl games.
