100.7 Star In Pittsburgh Looks For “Our Lives” Photos

CBS Radio WBZZ-FM/100.7 Star morning show is conducting a social experiment called "Our Lives in 30 Minutes" Thursday.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports they're inviting listeners to take a picture as soon as they get out of bed, and then photograph whatever they're looking at every 30 minutes throughout the day.

"It will be super cool to look at a person's life in 30-minute increments through the course of one day in the 'Burgh" said WBZZ morning show host Bubba.

People can post the photos to their own Facebook page or to their Twitter feed with the hash tag #BubbaShow30MinuteLives.

Several well-known people are scheduled to take part in the experiment, including "Restaurant: Impossible" host Robert Irvine, former Steeler Chris Hoke and That's Church Blogger Virginia Montanez.

Atlanta: The Fan Radio Host Apologizes For Question

Sports radio talk show host Chuck Oliver says he was guilty of “horrible timing” in asking UGA Coach Mark Richt a question about losing big games after Saturday night’s SEC Championship Game.

Oliver, part of the “Chuck and Chernoff Show” on 680 the Fan, told Joel Provano at ajc.com he used “awful, terrible, wretched, horrid judgment” in posing such a question after Georgia’s emotional 32-28 loss to Alabama, a game many are calling the greatest SEC championship game ever.

In the exchange at a post-game press conference, Oliver asked Richt: “There are some people, whether its fans, media or whomever else, that may want to make further conclusions about you or your quarterback specifically in big games. Would you have any response to those people?”

Richt: “I don’t know what you’re saying. Why don’t you just say it straight up what you’re trying to say.”

Oliver: “There will be people who say that you and Aaron Murray specifically come up short on the biggest stage against the biggest opponents. Do you have any response to that?”

Richt bluntly asked if it was Oliver who was saying that, and Oliver responded that’s what he hears on the radio every day. Richt then says, “That’s for you to worry about then — if that’s what you say then I’ll answer the question; if you think other people are saying that, I’m not worried about that.”

Salem Realigns Management

Salem Communications has announced a market realignment for several major markets, beginning January 1st, 2013, and several promotions.

In New York, Salem VP Director, Spoken Word Format Phil Boyce will continue in that role with the additional responsibility of Operational VP for the New York cluster of AM 970 the Answer, and Christian Talk WMCA. 

Salem Regional VP Linnae Young who has overseen the New York cluster will take on the oversight of the Tampa cluster, including NewsTalk WGUL, Christian Talk WTBN, and NewsTalk WLSS Sarasota. 

In Louisville, Salem Regional VP Mike Moran will take over the oversight of NewsTalk WGTK, and Christian Talk WFIA-AM and FM.

Salem Communications President David Santrella made the announcements, adding, "Phil's innate understanding of the New York market, particularly as it relates to news talk, as well as his day-to-day proximity to the operation, has led us to the decision to ask Phil to take on the additional role of Operational VP for the New York cluster. Phil will continue to work with all of our stations as VP Director, Spoken Word Format."

Worcester Radio Host Jim Polito Leaves WTAG For TV

Jim Polito will be leaving his morning radio show on WTAG in Worcester to take an on-air position with FOX 25 in Boston, GoLocalWorcester has learned.

Polito will be offering up political commentary for the 6p.m. and 10p.m. newscasts, according to friends of his radio program. He is set to start in the new position on Monday, December 10. Friday will be Polito's last day on air in Worcester.

"Jim Polito brought a unique voice to the Worcester air waves," said Chris Pinto of the Worcester Republican City Committee. "He was a big supporter of the City of Worcester, but he has zero tolerance for the shenanigans of the 'Shamrock Club' and the liberal machinations that they get away with that have this once great city 'Circling the Drain.'"

"Jim's straight talking style is why his show was so wildly successful in Central Mass," Pinto continued. "His voice will be sorely missed and whomever replaces him will have giant shoes to fill."

Representatives for FOX25  and WTAG could not immediately be reached for comment on the staffing change, but GoLocalWorcester has learned that Polito has signed a contract with the station, and the departing radio host posted the television station's logo to his Facebook page on Monday.

A Worcester native, Polito has hosted The Jim Polito Show weekday mornings from 5 to 9a.m. on WTAG since the spring of 2008. Prior to returning to Central Mass, Polito served as the chief investigative reporter for ABC40 in Springfield.

WMGK Philly Staging ‘DeBella’s DeBall’

12-12-12 Sandy Relief Concert Gets Distribution

The producers of "12-12-12" announced Monday that the concert at Madison Square Garden on December  12, 2012, at 7:30 PM (ET), to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy, has secured distribution to over one billion people.

The concert will be able to be seen on 34 US networks and television feeds worldwide, radio and online streaming. "12-12-12", which is presented by Chase, will be distributed across networks and feeds in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Tickets to "12-12-12" went on sale Monday.

With every major U.S. media company airing the benefit on at least one of their networks, 34 channels will "take over" TV for the night. 

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment will broadcast the concert live on its radio stations across the country, and will also video stream live on iHeartRadio, Clear Channel's digital radio service, and across the websites and Facebook pages of its 850 stations. 

In addition, the concert will also stream live across several major online video providers, as well as being streamed and promoted by several digital media partners.

Iconic performers Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Roger Waters, Eddie Vedder, Kanye West, The Who and Paul McCartney will perform at the "12-12-12" concert on December 12, 2012 at Madison Square Garden.

Tickets for "12-12-12" are on sale now through Ticketmaster which  agreed to waive its ticket service charges.

'New Yorker' Profiles Radio’s Paul Finebaum

The Paul Finebaum Radio Network, which emanates from Birmingham’s WJOX, attracts nearly a quarter of the adult male listeners in Birmingham—by comparison, Mike Francesca, in New York, gets five percent—with a broad demographic range.

According to the New Yorker article Finebaum is, by his own admission, an unlikely candidate for the voice of the South: he is fifty-seven, Jewish, and bald, prefers MSNBC to ESPN, and expresses surprise that he has not ended up in a more academic profession (during one show, he made a reference to Sartre’s “No Exit” to explain his trouble ending an irritating interview).

Boisterous radio callers are hardly a new phenomenon, but Finebaum’s have developed a particular reputation for volume, crudeness, and blind loyalty to their teams of choice.  Some call multiple times a day. Some write out scripts. They have names like Moondog and Legend and Charles Allen Head, who calls nearly every week to deliver an original, football-themed poem.

Finebaum thinks of his show as a soap opera, on which he is the lead writer, conversing intelligently with his more lucid callers while also pushing the plot to the edges of sensibility.

Conservative Talk 94.5 Launches in Greenville, SC

Salem Communications Monday launched  "Conservative Talk 94.5 FM" in Greenville-Spartanburg, SC.

The format was launched with under a Local Management Agreement (LMA) with WMUU-FM.

The station is the 26th News/Talk station owned by Salem.

Jack Is Back In Denver

After stunting as "POT 107.1", Max Media's KDHT Denver has settled on Jack-FM.   The "Play What We Want" variety  format returned to Denver at 3pm Monday after an absence of three months.

The format previously aired on KJAC 105.5 FM, which is now simulcasting sports from sister  KDSP.
