ABC Says News of Kimmel's Demise Is 'Inaccurate'

ABC says a Page Six report that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will end in 2027 is “inaccurate,” and that any claims about the show’s future right now are “purely speculative.”

The denial came after Page Six reported Tuesday that Kimmel’s contract would not be extended and that the current 24th season would be his last. A source familiar with the situation told the outlet, “His contract is not getting extended.”

An ABC Entertainment spokesperson repeated the same line to multiple outlets: the report is inaccurate, and talk about what happens after the current deal is premature. What is settled is the existing contract. Kimmel signed a one-year extension in December 2025 that keeps him on ABC through at least May 2027.

The new season returned this week after a summer of guest hosts; Kimmel marked the 4,000th episode on his first night back. The rumor lands in a late-night landscape already in flux. CBS ended The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May 2026. Kimmel, on air since 2003, has also spent the past year in a running public fight with President Donald Trump.

ABC briefly pulled the show in September 2025 after a monologue about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk; affiliates including Sinclair and Nexstar dropped it, and the FCC chair threatened action before Disney put the program back on. Page Six sources said any end to the show would not be about Trump. ABC has not announced a final season, a successor, or a decision on what happens when the May 2027 deal expires.

For now, the network’s position is that the show’s future beyond that date has not been decided in public — and that reports saying otherwise are speculation.
