Robinson Used 'Grandpa's Rifle'

Tyler Robinson at Court Appearance Tuesday

Last week, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson allegedly shot and killed conservative influencer Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, according to a 10-page criminal information document released by Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray.

Robinson, a former straight-A student from Utah, faces charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering.

Court documents reveal that Robinson had been planning the attack for a week, using a rifle he referred to as “grandpa’s rifle.” After the shooting, which targeted Kirk in the neck, Robinson messaged his roommate, with whom he was romantically involved.

The roommate found a note hidden under a keyboard, stating, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” In response to the roommate’s shocked message, “You weren’t the one who did it right????”, Robinson replied, “I am, I’m sorry.”

The killing of Kirk, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA, has stunned the nation, particularly amid rising concerns over political violence. Robinson was arraigned on September 16, 2025, as new details about the case emerged during a news conference held by Gray.
