HGTV Star Erin Napier "I Won't Celebrate Murder"

Erin Napier, star of HGTV's Home Town, sparked controversy with Instagram posts following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, drawing sharp reactions from her two million followers and prompting concern from network executives, according to the Daily Mail.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in Utah on September 17, 2025. Hours later, Napier, a 40-year-old interior designer and author who, with her husband Ben, has built a renovation brand in Mississippi, posted on her Instagram Story: "Only the demonized celebrate death."

The comment triggered a fierce backlash, particularly from progressive fans who accused her of failing to "celebrate" Kirk's death.

A senior HGTV executive, speaking anonymously to the Daily Mail, expressed dismay, stating, "I saw it and just cringed. I literally groaned out loud. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and she definitely has hers, but obviously that's not what the network is. HGTV wants to be a place that welcomes all viewers, regardless of their political views." The executive's remarks highlight the network's desire to maintain a neutral, inclusive brand amid Napier's polarizing statement.

Napier doubled down in a follow-up post, addressing hostile direct messages: "I am revolted by some of the comments in my DMs. Unfollow me, immediately, if you could be one of those comments. Christ, have mercy on us all."

The response further amplified the controversy, sending "shockwaves" through HGTV's headquarters. The incident has fueled heated discussions among fans on social media, with Napier's comments drawing both support and criticism. The story reflects broader tensions around public figures expressing political views, particularly for a network like HGTV, which aims to appeal to a broad audience.
