Stephanie Sparks, the talented Golf Channel host known for co-hosting the reality series “Big Break,” has died at the age of 50. Her passing. at age 50, marks the end of a remarkable journey that spanned both the fairways and the airwaves.
Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Stephanie emerged as an exceptional amateur golfer. She secured victories at prestigious tournaments, including the North and South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst in 1992 and the Women’s Western Amateur and Women’s Eastern Amateur. Representing the U.S. on the 1994 Curtis Cup team, she earned recognition as an All-America selection during her time at Duke University.
Stephanie’s professional golf career was brief due to chronic back pain, leading her to step away from the sport after just one season on the LPGA in 2000. However, she found a new calling in television. As the host of multiple shows on Golf Channel, including “Big Break,” “Golf with Style!”, and “Playing Lessons with the Pros,” Stephanie Sparks brought her passion for golf to viewers worldwide. She also contributed as an on-camera reporter during golf tournaments.
Her co-host on “Big Break,” Tom Abbott, expressed his shock and sadness at her passing, reminiscing about their shared experiences during seven seasons of the show. Stephanie’s impact extended beyond the greens; she advocated for hospice care and supported organizations like the Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation and the Barber Fund in Orlando.
A private family service will be held in Elm Grove, West Virginia, where Stephanie was born.
