ME Radio: Saga vs. Kirshbaum Case Approaching Settlement

The long-running legal battle between Randi Kirshbaum and Saga Communications is finally approaching a resolution. Both parties have agreed to participate in a settlement conference scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, before U.S. Magistrate Judge John C. Nivison at the U.S. District Courthouse in Bangor, ME.

Let’s briefly recap the saga:

Randi Kirshbaum
Randi Kirshbaum, a veteran radio personality, spent nearly four decades with Saga’s Portland Radio Group in Portland, ME. During her tenure, she held multiple roles, including Program Director for Hot AC WMGX (Coast 93.1), PD/afternoons on Triple A WCLZ, and middays on Country WPOR.

In May 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Kirshbaum faced a challenging situation. After working remotely for six weeks, she was terminated (which Saga denied) when she declined to return to the building due to serious health reasons. Her doctor had recommended that she continue working from home to avoid exposure to COVID-19, considering the potential danger to her health.

The legal back-and-forth continued for several years, but now both parties are ready to explore a resolution through a settlement conference.

Kirshbaum, who currently works remotely from her Maine home, contributes to various radio stations, including Hubbard Triple A 98.9 KPNW/Seattle, Northeast Broadcasting Triple A WXRV (92.5 The River)/Boston, and sister station WNCS (The Point)/Montpelier-Burlington, VT.
