TWH Worried Over Elon Musk

Karine Jean-Pierre, WH Spox

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday that the White House has been monitoring Twitter now that Elon Musk has taken the social media platform over, reports The Daily Mail US.

'This is something we're certainly keeping an eye on,' she said during the daily briefing. 'We're all monitoring what's currently occurring.'

Jean-Pierre was asked how concerned the White House was about Twitter becoming a conduit for misinformation.

'Look, we have always been very clear that when it comes to social media platforms, it is their responsibility to make sure that when it comes to misinformation, when it comes to the hate that we're seeing, that they take action. That they continue to take action,' Jean-Pierre also said.

Musk touted Saturday that new signups for Twitter and active users are at an all-time high.

The billionaire has let a number of right-wing figures back on the platform who were previously banned - including reinstating the account of former President Donald Trump, who has yet to tweet from his old handle, as he currently remains faithful to his own Truth Social.

Musk also reinstated Kanye West, the rapper who's made a number of recent anti-Semitic statements - and had dinner with Trump and known white supremacist Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago last week - as well as Milo Yiannopoulos, a right-wing figure running West's teased 2024 presidential campaign.

'Social media companies have a responsibility to prevent their platforms from being used by any user to incite violence, especially violence directed at individual communities,' Jean-Pierre also said.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk said Twitter would be releasing files on its own 'free speech suppression,' in a tweet on Monday.vvThe billionaire is expected to disclose the full details of Twitter's 2020 censorship of the New York Post's reporting on Hunter Biden's laptop.

The announcement comes days after Musk said releasing information about Twitter's response to the laptop story was 'necessary' if the social media company wanted to win back the public's trust.
