Mike Missanelli |
Mike Missanelli has been uncharacteristically quiet since his abrupt departure from WPEN 97.5 The Fanatic in late May, but his loyal listeners won't have to wait much longer to hear from the longtime sports talk radio host, reports The Philly Business-Journal.
Word of Missanelli's first post-Fanatic gig came Tuesday when JAKIB Media Partners announced he will join the digital platform's Philadelphia Eagles postgame show this season, beginning with the team's season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 11.
Missanelli will join former Eagles star Seth Joyner, reporter Derrick Gunn and host Devan Kaney for the online show, which broadcasts live from Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City and airs on 6abc.com and YouTube.
The new opportunity for Missanelli comes less than a week after his longtime employer officially named a trio of new hosts to take over his old afternoon drive timeslot at The Fanatic. Hunter Brody, Tyrone Johnson and Ricky Bottalico will join holdover Jennifer Scordo on the 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. broadcast beginning in August.Missanelli made the surprising on-air announcement of his immediate departure from The Fanatic on May 31, after 12 years of hosting the "Mike Missanelli Show" on the Beasley Media Group-owned radio station. The show was also simulcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
By appearing on JAKIB Media, he joins another Philadelphia sports media fixture who recently found himself a free agent in Gunn. The veteran Eagles reporter was laid off by NBC Sports Philadelphia in 2020 after more than 20 years on the job.
Joyner has become a prominent local analyst in recent years, appearing regularly on NBC Sports Philadelphia's coverage of the Eagles. Kaney has been a host and reporter for various sports leagues and media outlets, including the National Lacrosse League, ESPN and NBC Sports Philadelphia. She also filled in on Missanelli's show for a stretch last year.
