Cherri Gregg |
Entercom has announced that Newsradio KYW 1060 AM community affairs reporter and on-air host Cherri Gregg has been named Journalist of the Year by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ).
Gregg, who was recognized in the broadcast and online category, will be honored at the PABJ’s annual Awards and Scholarship Gala on November 2 in Philadelphia.
“Cherri is extremely deserving of this award,” said David Yadgaroff, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Philadelphia. “She is a champion of the community who is constantly searching for and reporting on the stories and issues that matter most to KYW Newsradio listeners across the Philadelphia area. I’m proud to call her a member of our team.”
“I am humbled, grateful and truly honored to receive this award from PABJ, an organization that I love," said Gregg. “Every day I work to educate, empower and positively impact underserved communities, and this award means that maybe, just maybe, the work is headed in the right direction.”
Gregg joined KYW Newsradio as a reporter in 2010 and has served as the station’s community affairs reporter since 2013. In addition to that role, Gregg hosts “Flashpoint with Cherri Gregg,” a weekly radio program that focuses on the most relevant issues affecting the Philadelphia area. The program, airing on five Entercom Philadelphia stations, provides a forum for local and national influencers with different viewpoints to discuss the most relevant news stories of the week. Each week, the show’s goal is to move the community forward in a positive direction. Gregg has been actively involved in the PABJ since 2009 and served as its president from 2015 to 2016.
This year, Gregg has also been recognized with two National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Salute To Excellence Awards for radio investigative reporting and podcasting.
Founded in 1974, PABJ is the nation’s oldest professional association of journalists of color. With over 100 active members, the organization is also one of the largest and the founding chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. Their yearly awards recognize honorees for exemplary reporting, media management and dedicated community service performed while maintaining a commitment to diverse and inclusive employment and coverage, as well as community empowerment.
“Flashpoint with Cherri Gregg” can be heard on KYW Newsradio on Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. and Sundays at 8:30 a.m., B101.1 (WBEB-FM) on Sundays at 5:00 a.m., Talk Radio 1210 WPHT (WPHT-AM) on Sundays at 5:00 a.m., 98.1 WOGL (WOGL-FM) on Sundays at 6:00 a.m. and 96.5 TDY (WTDY-FM) on Sundays at 6:00 a.m. The show can also be heard nationwide via the RADIO.COM app and website.
