NYC Radio: Michael Kay Apologizes For 'Clumsy Talk'

Michael Kay, Clint Frazier
Michael Kay, the YES Network broadcaster who makes a living as the play-by-play voice for the New York Yankees, needed several attempts to find the right words to apologize to injured outfielder Clint Frazier.

After originally downplaying his comments on Monday that blamed the Yankees' four consecutive losses to the Boston Red Sox on injured players — calling his stance facetious — Kay found himself backpedaling more Tuesday after Frazier responded on Twitter.

Kay's original comments, made on his separate WEPN 98.7 ESPN Radio show, included him saying, in part: "Shame on Clint Frazier for not getting healthy. ...you can't make them get healthy, but if those guys are available it's a completely different animal."

To those comments, Frazier hit back on Twitter. "Facetious or not, I don’t appreciate what you said today. I’m doing everything I can to get healthy so I can play symptom free ... so steer clear of publicly calling me out for not when we haven’t even had one convo about my concussion this year. #ShameOnYouBro."

That's when Kay decided to formally apologize.

Frazier suffered a concussion in spring training and has appeared in just 15 games this season as he's struggled with post-concussion symptoms.

Ellsbury had hip surgery Tuesday and is out for at least six more months.

Kay recently signed contract extensions to continue as ESPN Radio NY (98.7 FM) host and YES Network's play-by-play announcer.
