The hosts of Rock WPLR 99.1 FM morning show are creating headlines after starting a fundraising campaign with the promising of giving the money to Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy if he resigns.
The Chaz and AJ Show launched the campaign called “Gov’s Gotta Go,” and the money raised would be offered as a “severance package.”
“If you hate this face then you live in Connecticut,” a post on the GoFundMe page says. “If you live in Connecticut, then you already know: The Governor has really screwed this place up.”
Malloy’s office was quick to issue a statement about what it calls “such silly stunts.”
“We understand that the on-air character that “shock jocks” play are meant to be entertaining with their outlandish antics. But the reality is, for state leaders and for most taxpayers, the state budget is a very serious matter,” Malloy Spokesman Chris Collibee said in a statement. “And the people of this state are counting on us to remain focused on the task at hand and to not be sidetracked by such silly stunts. To that end, the administration continues to work with legislative leaders in earnest toward a budget that puts Connecticut on the right track.”
Connecticut is currently without a state budget, and has been that way for about 100 days. Malloy released a budget earlier this year, but both Republicans and Democrats have failed to find common ground.
As a result, major cuts are being made leaving several cities and town with little to no state aid.
