Women Believe Their Fav AC Station Plays Better Variety
Women who listen most to an adult contemporary radio station feel that their favorite station plays a better variety of music than online streamers such as Pandora and Spotify, according to data that will be released Wednesday in the final webinar in the Alan Burns and Associates/Strategic Solutions Research series “What Women Want.”
“By almost a two to one margin (59% agree to 33% disagree) AC P1s agreed with the statement that “my favorite radio station has a better variety of music than what I get when I listen to online music services,” noted Strategic Solutions Research EVP Hal Rood, “and that speaks to fantastic curation on radio’s part.”
Burns VP Jeff Johnson noted that the results of that perception show up in AC fans listening behaviors. “You see it wherever these women have multiple alternatives to radio,” noted Johnson, “such as in at work listening, where radio stations’ on-air or online programming dominates other music streams by more than 4 to 1 (64% to 16%). And women who drive connected cars and know they can listen to online streams still listen to radio far more than any of the pureplays.”
Tomorrow’s “What Women Want” presentation takes a close look at both the Hot and Mainstream versions of AC with a special focus on comparing and contrasting artist and music preferences by listeners of the two formats. The free, 30 minute “Deep Dive into AC and Hot AC” webinar is scheduled for 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific.
