More than six weeks after announcing the rollout of its Digital Audio Ratings service, Nielsen has delayed the commercialization of the service by two months, according to InsideRadio.
The pre-currency period of the syndicated, subscription-based service, which measures the online streams of broadcast radio stations in PPM markets, will now be extended to include the April and May survey periods.
Nielsen’s original plans called for the service to go live as ratings currency in Tapscan with the April survey period after a two-month pre-currency preview period covering data from the February and March surveys. Now the live currency implementation won’t occur until the June survey period with data available in mid-July. Clients getting the pre-currency preview data will continue to receive those reports, Nielsen said in a communication to clients. The reports provide listening data only for clients’ own stations and not their competitors.
“Since the announcement, several clients have asked us for additional time to get comfortable with the new data,” Nielsen said in the statement.
When Nielsen made the rollout announcement on March 17, it came as a surprise to several broadcast groups who said the product was rushed to market before basic technical issues were resolved.
