He was 70-years-of-age.
Born Ray Markiewicz, he was diagnosed with leukemia in the summer of 2012, and underwent years of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant surgery.
He had a passion for broadcasting, as well as guiding and mentoring others. The former news director for WGR 550 AM, WBEN 930 AM, and WJTN 1240 AM in Jamestown, NY spent 40 years in the business doing what he loved. When he wasn't in the studio, he was an adjunct professor at St. Bonaventure University, Buffalo State College, and Medaille College.
In addition to having a love for radio and sharing it with others, he also loved the outdoors. Ray mentored and taught veterans having trouble adjusting to civilian life how to fly fish. Reflecting on his life, he said that he appreciates everything he has experienced, and that he wanted to make the world a better place.
