Even though the dance WEDX 101.7 FM Evolution signed off the airwaves last week, fans are still not ready to say goodbye.
According to boston.com, a Change.org petition by “EDM Listeners Everywhere” has popped up urging Clear Channel Communications to reinstate Evolution 101.7 as the electronic dance music station it once was. The radio station has transformed into an all-country music station called “The Bull.”
“Getting rid of Evolution 101.7 is like getting rid of an entire genre as a whole,” the petition states.
Before becoming a dance radio station, 101.7 was owned by the Phoenix Media/Communications Group and operated as an alternative rock station from 1983 until 2012. WFNX was sold to Clear Channel Communications on May 16, 2012, and emerged to play electronic dance music.
The dance music format will continue to live on the Clear Channel iHeart Radio digital service and online.
